Eligibility for the course of   Master of Philosophy :
Candidates must have attained 55% marks in their  Master Degree ( 50% for SC,ST,PWD,  &PH) or its equivalent from any UGC recognized University

  1. For Human Development studies: Any Master's Degree coming under Humanitied and social Sciences with minimum 55%( 50% for SC/ST/PWD (PH)
  2. For Women’s Studies (Self-financing): Master's degree in any subject with minimum 55% (50 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)} marks in aggregate may also apply.
  3. For Comparative Literature (Self- financing):Master's degree in any Language and Literature subject (e.g. English. Bengali, Hindi, Urdu etc.) with minimum 55% {(50 % forSC/ST/PWD (PH)} marks in aggregate may also apply.
Entrance Examination : Candidates who are applying for more than one  subject will have to appear for Entrance Examination so they are advised to apply accordingly.

Written Examination Schedule :
■ 03.10.2015- First Half and Second half : All Subjects except Human Development Studies, Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature
■ 04.10.2015-Only For Second Half:  Human Development Studies, Women’s Studies and Comparative

Examination Exemption :
The applicants who have been qualified NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF)  will be exempted from Written Examination Test.

Admission Process :
All the candidates except o exempted category will have to appear for the Written Examination test and qualified candidates will have to attend an interview by the department concerned.

Written Entrance and Examination Test :
Only Eligible candidates will be taken for selection for the admission to M.Phil Course or Programmes. The Examination will be of 100 marks and Exam Hour will be 3 Hours including two halves of 50 marks each.
  • First half of the examination will be for the candidates of Arts and Fine Arts. This half includes General Knowledge, Comprehension test, Qualitative or Quantitative / Reasoning Aptitude etc. It will be known as  Common Research Aptitude Test.
  • Second half is subject oriented which include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the candidate etc. (within 300 words) (20 marks).
Qualifying Marks:
The Qualifying mark for each Candidate is of 40% (30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)} individually as qualifying marks in both halves ( 1st half and 2nd half ).

For qualifying the interview each candidate require to score at least 50% of marks (45 % for
SC/ST/PWD (PH)} marks (marks of 1st half and 2nd half taken together after screening the qualifying marks of 40% {(30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)}individually in both halves ( 1st half and 2nd half ) out of 100 marks.

Each and every qualified candidate as well as who have cleared NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be required to appear in Interview of 50 marks.

***Note : Qualifying VIVA marks for admission to M.Phil Course is at least 50%  (45% for SC,ST & PWD (PH).

Applications Processing Fees:
Application Processing Fee of Rs.300/- + additional charge of Bank (Rs.180/-+ additional
charge of Bank for PWD(PH) candidates)

Candidates have to apply for the M.Phil Course online following the online link of Rabindra Bharati University : http://admission.rbu.net.in/

Schedule for the Admission to M.Phil Course for the session 2015-2016
  1. List of Eligible candidates for written entrance test  will be published on the website: 24.9.2015 (after 4: 00 p.m.).
  2. Downloading and Verification of Admit cards : In between 28.9.2015 to 30.9.2015 (verification time : between 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Admission Section of the University) the candidates have to download their admit cards by themselves.

  • On 03.10.2015 (1st half of all subjects and also 2nd half all subjects other than Human Development Studies ,Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature)
  • On  04.10.2015 (only the 2nd half of Human Development Studies ,Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature)
Note: The 1st half of Human Development Studies ,Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature will be held on 03.10.2015.

■ Date of Viva Voce: 29.10.2015,30.10.2015,02.11.2015 and 03.11.2015
■ Result of Viva Voce (Publication of 1st Merit) on the website : 06.11.2015 (after 4: 00 p.m.)
■ Online Provisional Admission of 1st Merit List: 07.11.2015 to 14.11.2015
■ Confirmation of Admission : 16.11.2015 (between 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Admission
Section of the University.

Commencement of M.Phil Classes: 18.11.2015
The dates mentioned in the above schedule are subject to change.
